Seeing that it was done at the direction of a Dell tech push for getting a free replacement! You can get the service call number and status at the dell support site after logging in, if Dell requires it for reference and validation. By chance did you mean to say you bent pins on the cpu chip? The cpu chip tends to pull out of the socket when removing a heatsink.
thanks to all who replied.Yeah it is the CPU thats damaged.It did come off with the heatsink.I feel so dumb for bending the pins because I have reseated a cpu before without any problems.I doubt that they will give me a replacement as this was my fault and not a faulty device.

Call and ask for Spare Parts. They will sell the heatsink separately.
